Experts give their opinions on e-smoking
Researchers from Boston University School of Public Health conclude that electronic cigarettes are safer than regular tobacco cigarettes.
E-cigs are also a great aid to quit smoking. In their report, the researchers found that there was even evidence found.
According to the researchers, electronic cigarettes are proved to be "much safer" than the traditional tobacco. You can compare their level of toxicity with existing nicotine substitutes.
The level of carcinogens in electronic cigarettes was found to be 1000 times less than regular tobacco cigarettes. The e-cigarette has significantly less risk for both the smoker and its surroundings.
On 30 November 2012, a French study was presented in which a number of significant health improvements are described of smokers who switched to the electric cigarette. In this study, it showed that the use of the e-cigarette causes a big drop in the use of normal tobacco cigarettes (by 72% of the smokers).
More than 60 percent of the subjects have a marked positive effect on their health, 15% had minor side effects (mouth, lips or throat irritation). After 3 months, the heart rate of all the participants decreased and also their level of carbon monoxide. The weight gain of the e-smokers was lower compared to ex-smokers that quitted without the e-cig.
Safe and efficient to quit
Dr. Adam Leventhal explains that electronic cigarettes are definitely safer than ordinary cigarettes. The e-cigarette is a great tool to stop. For him, it is a fact that they are more effective than eg. nicotine patches to quit smoking. Although further research is needed.
Dr. Carl Phillips, a former professor in Public Health, says that electric cigarettes should be investigated further, but he was very confident that using the e-cigarettes are 90 to 95% safer than traditional cigarettes. It is true that there is no real long-term data available. Therefore, the product don't exist still not long enough. But we see that the mortality rate of e-smokers is much lower.
